So… you’re about to marry your person in paradise. Congratulations! Now, before you panic and dig out that old blazer from college, let’s talk about you for a second. Your partner is going to be absolutely radiant, but when they’ve gone all-in looking their best, it’s your moment to step up too. This is your chance to rock beach wedding groom attire that makes both the photos and your partner swoon all over again. From barefoot romance to sunset-chic sophistication, the right outfit will elevate your style, make the memories pop, and ensure your pictures are straight out of a magazine.

Having photographed hundreds of weddings across Maui, Oahu, Kauai, and the Big Island, we’ve seen it all: what’s classic, what’s trendy, and what looks effortlessly polished, whether your ceremony is casual sand-between-your-toes or elegant sunset sophistication. Every detail matters, from fabric choice to accessories and, yes, even the way your shoes look on the sand.

Match Their Energy

Think of it as a dance: your outfit should complement, not compete. If your partner is in flowing, dreamy elegance, you don’t need a full tux (unless that’s your vibe too), but something that is equal to their style and level of formality. Linen vests, crisp shirts, or lightweight suits say, “I see you, I match you, and yes, I cleaned up nicely.”

Opt for colors that photograph beautifully: soft neutrals, sandy beige, pastel blues, dusty taupes, or blush tones. They harmonize with the sand, ocean, and sunset, giving your photos a timeless, editorial feel.

  • Subtle color coordination with your partner elevates the vibe without being matchy-matchy.
  • Textured fabrics like linen, seersucker, or lightweight cotton blends add visual interest and keep you cool.
  • Small flourishes, like a tropical lining in a blazer or a soft patterned pocket square, give personality without overwhelming the look.

Time of Day Matters

Daytime ceremonies call for breathable, lightweight fabrics. Linen, cotton blends, and airy textures will keep you cool and camera-ready. Flowing trousers, loose blazers, or a vest over tailored pants allow for natural movement, perfect for candid moments as waves lap the shore.

Evening or sunset? Bring in structured sophistication: soft-colored suits, lightweight blazers, tailored three-piece ensembles, or even a classic tuxedo.

  • Lighter shades like cream, beige, blush, soft gray, or powder blue pop against the ocean and sunset.
  • Consider layering a vest for photos; it looks polished and allows easy removal if it gets warm.
  • Avoid stiff, heavy fabrics; they don’t photograph well in bright sunlight or during movement on sand.

Dressing for the Beach

Here’s the core of it: your attire needs to look elegant while embracing the sand. Two-piece suits are ideal for relaxed elegance, while three-piece suits create a sunset-chic vibe for photos and ceremony alike. If your beach wedding is a more casual island vibe, a light, crisp linen shirt or aloha print looks great.

No matter how elegant or casual your wedding is, wrinkles and sloppiness are big no-nos, even for a beach wedding ceremony. Wrinkles, small stains, or your favorite worn board shorts aren’t appropriate, even if you think it’s just a simple ceremony on a beach. Also, tailor your pants to hit the right length for your footwear because pools of fabric at your feet isn’t a vibe like the tidepools at the beach. Hire a tailor to get that perfect fit because trust us, a bad-fitting suit can’t hide from our camera!

These attire missteps are exaggerated and highlighted behind the camera. Your partner and the future you will thank you when you look back at your photos in the future!

  • Barefoot is romantic and casual, perfect for a “sand-between-your-toes” vibe.
  • Dress shoes elevate the look for sunset portraits or slightly formal touches. Loafers, leather sandals, or espadrilles are comfortable, stylish, and beach-appropriate.
  • Avoid clunky, dark shoes! They sink into the sand and photograph poorly.
  • Roll sleeves during casual moments for relaxed, candid shots.
  • Lighter fabrics like linen, cotton blends, chambray, and tropical wool breathe well and photograph beautifully.
  • Soft pastels, light neutrals, and even gentle floral prints subtly elevate your beach wedding vibe.

Accessorize with Personality

You’ve already won their heart, now your outfit can tell your story. Small touches make a big statement: tropical-print or personalized linings, fun socks, patterned pocket squares, or a bold bow tie reflect your personality without stealing the spotlight.

  • Suspenders, vintage watches, playful ties, or tropical motifs add subtle flair.
  • Grooming matters! Well-styled hair, a tidy beard, or a signature scent completes the look.
  • Personal touches like heirloom cufflinks, family watches, or socks that nod to hobbies tell your story while staying refined.

Fabric, Fit, and Flow

The right fabric ensures comfort and style. Linen is lightweight, breathable, and perfect for tropical climates. Cotton blends offer structure without heaviness. A soft, lightweight wool adds formality while remaining cool.

Fit tips:

  • Slim or tailored fits photograph best without looking stiff.
  • Jackets that allow movement and shirts that breathe prevent heat-induced discomfort.
  • Trousers with a slight taper look polished but allow walking on the sand.

The Finishing Touches

Boutonnieres tie your look to your partner’s outfit, creating a cohesive, romantic ensemble. Pocket squares, sleek watches, and polished shoes round out the look perfectly.

  • Jackets with tropical linings or subtle patterns give a fun peek in photos.
  • Well-groomed hair and polished footwear ensure a finished, intentional look.
  • Minimal but meaningful jewelry, watches, cufflinks, or a sentimental tie clip elevates elegance.

Your beach wedding groom attire doesn’t need to be complicated. Keep it stylish, breathable, photo-ready, and full of personality. Step up, complement your partner’s elegance, and own your spotlight in paradise; the photos (and your person) will thank you.

At the end of the day, your beach wedding groom attire is about more than just looking good, it’s about showing up as your best self, celebrating your love, and creating memories that will last a lifetime. Whether you’re barefoot in the sand, rocking a sleek linen suit, or adding a pop of personality with playful details, the goal is simple: feel confident, look effortlessly polished, and complement your partner’s elegance every step of the way.

After all, paradise isn’t just a backdrop, it’s the setting for one of the most special days of your life, and you deserve to shine just as brightly.

Your Dedicated Coordination Team

Unlike many other Big Island wedding planning companies, we have a dedicated team of planners whose sole focus is organizing your wedding and coordinating all vendors.

For background on who we are, our team started on the island of Maui in 2007 with the brand Simple Maui Wedding. With much success on Maui, we expanded to Oahu with our Simple Oahu Wedding brand. Both brands provide superior quality and service and have a combined 135 5-star reviews.

Some wedding companies try to handle numerous roles, such as officiant, planner, photographer, and florist. We, however, have dedicated team members specializing solely in wedding coordination. Create a Timeline

Our coordination team will craft a timeline that ensures you arrive at the location optimally for the best lighting and weather conditions. This is particularly crucial for sunset weddings, as timing must be precise to capture stunning beach photos before darkness sets in. After sunset in Hawaii, it is usually completely dark about 30 minutes after sunset, so timing is crucial.

Guidance Through the Marriage License Process

Navigating the legal requirements for obtaining a marriage license can be daunting. Let us simplify the process for you by providing step-by-step guidance and ensuring all necessary paperwork is completed correctly and on time.

Ensuring Proper Permits and Insurance

You can relax knowing that your wedding venue is fully compliant with all local regulations and adequately insured. For beach weddings, we’ll take care of obtaining permits and having the proper insurance coverage to ensure your celebration proceeds without a hitch and fully complies with state regulations.

Expert Vendor Coordination

Our experienced Hawaii wedding planning team excels in coordinating vendors to ensure the flawless execution of your wedding vision. From photographers to florists, we’ll coordinate with each vendor, manage timelines, confirm them before your big day, and oversee setup to guarantee a seamless and stress-free experience.

Access to Trusted Professionals

Access our curated list of preferred vendors, including top-notch hair and makeup artists. We’ve carefully vetted each professional to ensure they meet our high standards of quality and reliability, allowing you to choose the perfect team for your special day confidently.

Our Big Island wedding photographer, Karma Hill Photography, is an award-winning professional photography team. Karma Hill Photography has been on The Knot’s Best of Weddings list every year from 2017- 2024 and is part of the Knot Best of Weddings Hall of Fame. With 160 reviews and a 5-star rating on Google, customers attest to their amazing photographic quality and exceptional customer service.

About the photographers

Owner and founder Karma Hill has personally trained our wedding photography team on the Big Island on the challenging Hawaii lighting and the intricacies of wedding photography. Capturing the perfect moments, posing, and engaging couples and guests for the most authentic and beautiful images. Their airy, dreamy, cinematic style will have you looking back on your wedding photos with love and awe. Each team member embarks on extensive training on morning and sunset light, so whichever time of day you choose, your photos will be delivered in the signature style they are so well known for.

Photo Editing Process

In addition to their outstanding photographic quality straight out of the camera, Karma Hill Photography employs a team of professional editors trained in the most advanced editing technology. Unlike a one-person operation editing photos while sipping wine and watching Netflix late into the night, their professional full-time office staff ensures meticulous editing to enhance every detail. Our editing team goes above and beyond by removing distractions like beachgoers or signage so all you remember is your perfect day and love for one another.

Sneak Peek of Your Wedding Photos

Karma Hill Photography will craft a Sneak Peek of your wedding photos within one week of your ceremony. Having a ‘Sneak Peek’ of your wedding photos allows you to easily share highlights with family and friends or post them on social media. Typically featuring around 20 photos in a timeline-style presentation, this preview offers a delightful glimpse into your special day before the full editing process, which typically takes about a month, is completed.

Day of Wedding Coordinator – How It Works

With each of our wedding packages (excluding the Just the Two of Us Package), we provide an on-site coordinator to ensure your ceremony runs smoothly. Having an on-site coordinator is paramount to managing the flow of guests and vendors and ensuring the wedding couple knows where and when to go, stand, and make your ceremony smooth with zero stress to you!

The wedding coordinator arrives at the location before our couples and their guests to ensure everything is as it should be and can promptly address any issues or changes, such as ceremony setup, beach conditions, or weather. Additionally, they manage the flow of people, including vendors such as photographers, musicians, and florists, directing them to their designated areas.

The day-of wedding coordinator also serves as the project manager for the day. If unforeseen circumstances, such as road closures, could hinder vendors or supplies from reaching your wedding, they can swiftly communicate with vendors and our office-based team to adjust plans and ensure the wedding proceeds smoothly.

Onsite coordinators also provide extra eyes to ensure everything looks perfect. They can assist in ensuring the couple looks their best, safeguard belongings during the ceremony on a public beach, and handle tasks like holding the bouquet or leis and assisting with a wedding dress or veil during couples photos.

Having an on-site coordinator is invaluable in alleviating stress by managing tasks. They allow you to fully enjoy your day without worrying about the multitude of details that need attention during the ceremony.

Did you know that the Big Island of Hawaii is actually bigger than the entire state of Rhode Island? It’s true! With such a vast expanse of land to explore, it’s important to plan where to stay on the Big Island carefully so you don’t end up spending the majority of your time in the car 🚙.

In this article, we’ll cover…..

  • The Primary Sides of the Island From Accommodations: West & East
  • Top Accommodations for Budget and Luxury Travelers
  • Activities & Adventures You Don’t Want To Miss
  • Best Locations To Stay, Specifically The Kohaloa Coast, North of Kailua-Kona

Before you book your Big Island adventure, read through this vital information and plan accordingly. This will ensure you make the most of your vacation without spending excessive time behind the wheel.

Planning Your Stay On The Big Island

When it comes to the Big Island of Hawaii, the island’s size makes choosing the right location to stay a crucial aspect of maximizing your trip and making the most of your precious vacation time. Before you even set foot on the island, it’s important to have a clear idea of the attractions you want to see. Some of the most sought-after attractions are a 6-hour round-trip drive from the most popular resorts on the Big Island.

The east side of the Big Island offers a captivating adventure with its lush jungle feel, volcanoes, and stunning black sand beaches. It’s an ideal destination for those seeking thrilling experiences like hiking through lush rainforests, exploring volcanic craters 🌋, and witnessing the raw power of nature. On the other hand, the west side of the island provides luxurious accommodations not available on the east side, with sun-drenched beaches and a plethora of ocean adventures.

To truly experience both worlds of the island, careful planning is essential. You can absolutely strike the perfect balance between adventure and relaxation on the Big Island! We suggest creating a well-thought-out itinerary with your highlights, must-dos, and things to see before you even book your hotel. Trying to casually drive between destinations can result in wasting hours in the car, limiting the time you have to enjoy the experiences you came for!

Staying On The Big Island’s West Side

Staying on the leeward or west side of the Big Island during a vacation is a choice that promises an unparalleled Hawaii vacation experience. The leeward side is often considered the best place to stay for that idyllic beach Hawaiian vacation for several compelling reasons. Firstly, this region enjoys abundant sunshine and relatively low rainfall, ensuring consistently pleasant weather ideal for beach outings, water sports, and outdoor activities. The golden sands and crystal-clear waters of beaches like those on the Kohala Coast offer perfect conditions for sunbathing and snorkeling 🤿. Moreover, the leeward side is home to some of the island’s most luxurious resorts, accommodations, and dining, ensuring a comfortable and pampered stay for visitors.

Additionally, staying on the West side of Hawaii Island offers easy access to a myriad of attractions. From exploring historic sites like the Pu’uhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park, to marveling at the wonders of Mauna Kea’s summit, travelers have a plethora of options within reach. The leeward side is also a gateway to mesmerizing marine life, with opportunities for whale watching and swimming with manta rays in the warm Pacific waters. Furthermore, the region boasts a vibrant culinary scene, offering fresh, locally sourced seafood and traditional Hawaiian delicacies, providing a delightful culinary journey for visitors.

Exploring The West Side Of The Big Island

This side of the Big Island, from Kohala to Puako, offers a diverse and enchanting tapestry of towns, making it an ideal destination for travelers seeking a rich Hawaiian experience. Beginning in Kohala, the region known as the “Birthplace of Kings,” towns like Hawi and Kapaau exude a charming, laid-back atmosphere with their historic buildings, art galleries, and farmers markets. These towns are surrounded by the majestic beauty of Kohala’s rolling hills and lush landscapes, providing a serene escape.

Moving southward, Waimea, often called Kamuela, has a charming downtown nestled amidst verdant pastures and Parker Ranch, one of the oldest and largest cattle ranches 🐄 in the USA. Here, visitors can enjoy farm-to-table dining experiences, explore Hawaiian cowboy culture, and relish the cool mountain air. Despite its verdant beauty, there are few resorts and accommodations upcountry.

Further down the coast, Waikoloa Village welcomes guests with its luxury resorts, world-class golf ⛳️ courses, five-star dining, and inviting sandy beaches. This area is known for its sunny weather, making it an excellent spot for sunbathing, snorkeling, and water sports.

Continuing the journey, Kailua-Kona stands out as the lively heart of the west side. This historic town boasts vibrant waterfront restaurants, art galleries, and historic sites like Hulihee Palace. It’s a gateway to diverse adventures, from exploring lava tube caves to snorkeling in the crystal-clear waters of Kealakekua Bay with abundant marine life. One thing to note about the Kona area is that there are limited sand beaches. So, if you are looking for more options for white sandy beaches, the Waikoloa area may be a better choice for your stay.

Stroll along Ali’i Drive, the main street in Kona, brimming with shops, restaurants, and lively hangouts like Kona Brewing Co. For adventure seekers, Kona offers some of the best surfing and snorkeling spots on the island at Kahaluu and Banyans. Don’t forget to explore the unique lava fields surrounding the area, a testament to the region’s volcanic history.

Just south of Waikoloa lies the quaint coastal community of Puako. This small town offers a more tranquil and authentic Hawaiian experience. Puako is renowned for its pristine, lava-rock-strewn shoreline, where crystal-clear waters provide excellent snorkeling and diving opportunities. The town’s charm lies in its laid-back atmosphere and the easy access it provides to explore vibrant coral reefs teeming with marine life. Puako is also a great spot for whale 🐋 watching during the winter months when humpback whales frequent the warm Hawaiian waters.

Staying on the west side of the island offers not only a central location for exploring various natural wonders, such as the mesmerizing Pololu Valley and the majestic Mauna Kea, but also a cultural immersion into Hawaii’s rich heritage. It’s an ideal base for excursions to ancient Hawaiian temples, or heiaus, and to the Pu’uhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park, showcasing the island’s intriguing past.

The west side’s sunny climate, a wealth of outdoor activities, and a plethora of dining and cultural experiences make it a perfect choice for travelers seeking a well-rounded Hawaiian vacation. Whether you’re captivated by the history of Kohala or enchanted by the lively ambiance of Kailua-Kona, the west side of the Big Island promises an unforgettable stay.

Staying On The East Side

While Hilo is the largest city on the east side of the Big Island, it might not be the ideal vacation spot for every traveler. Despite its size, Hilo lacks the bustling resort atmosphere found on the west coast. The city experiences higher rainfall due to its windward location, which might deter those seeking constant sunshine and outdoor activities. The East side receives approximately 142 inches of rainfall annually, while the Kohala Coast, located on the leeward (dry) side, gets only about 10 inches of rain per year! The eastern side’s lush rainforests and waterfalls are undoubtedly breathtaking, but the abundance of rain can limit beach days and outdoor adventures. Additionally, the lack of high-end resorts and commercialized entertainment options might not appeal to travelers looking for luxury amenities and vibrant nightlife.

Hilo’s charm lies in its historic downtown and cultural attractions, making it an excellent destination for those interested in Hawaiian history and local traditions. However, travelers looking for a more resort-style vacation, with easy access to gorgeous beaches, golf courses, and upscale dining, might find the west coast a better fit.

Many travelers who opt to stay close to Hilo for its affordable accommodations soon realize that the sunny beaches they dreamed of are not within convenient driving distance. In fact, these beautiful beaches are located on the Kailua-Kona side, which is nearly a 2 1/2-hour drive away! So it’s all the more reason to plan accordingly based on what you want to do!

Splitting Your Vacation Time Between The East & West Sides

Can you experience it all? Yes, of course! Even though the Big Island is big, you don’t need to be limited to just one side of the island. Splitting your time between the east and west sides can offer you the best of both worlds. It’s wise to decide on the activities you want to experience ahead of time, regardless of which side of the island they are located on. This way, you can plan your accommodations and rental car accordingly, ensuring you make the most of your time. If you’re keen on exploring the volcanoes, witnessing lava flows, and immersing yourself in the lush rainforests of the east side, we recommend allocating a significant portion of your stay in that area.

On the other hand, if you’re craving sunshine, beautiful beaches, and the laid-back vibes of the west side, you may want to spend a considerable amount of time there as well. So, what’s the solution? Rent a car and plan out your itinerary based on your activities!

Renting a car is essential for exploring the Big Island and getting around conveniently! Numerous car rental companies operate on the island, providing reliable vehicles for your adventure. One suggestion is to consider renting a car in Hilo and dropping it off in Kona, or vice versa, depending on your itinerary. This can save you time and make your journey more seamless. And most importantly, your vacation time isn’t wasted in the car! We can’t stress how important it is to plan your trip ahead of time, including booking any activities, hotels, and transportation as soon as you have your itinerary planned out.

Here is a list of reputable car rental companies on the Big Island:

By splitting your vacation time between the east and west sides of the Big Island, you can truly immerse yourself in the diverse landscapes and experiences this tropical paradise has to offer!

Additionally, the beach can get a little windy, but we think it only adds to the romantic atmosphere! Our lovely couple, Shelly and Max, beautifully modeled some stunning floral creations by our creative floral partner, Grace Flowers Hawaii.

When it comes to getting married on the Big Island of Hawaii, there’s no shortage of beautiful beach locations to choose from! Whether you’re looking for a palm tree-dotted beach or a rugged coastline adorned with plenty of lava rocks, there are endless options for a Hawaii beach wedding. Nothing quite compares to tying the knot with your toes in the sand, surrounded by the natural beauty of Hawaii island!
We’ve scouted and rounded up the most picturesque views the Big Island has to offer for our excited couples. Each one is unique and special in its own way, yet one thing for sure is our couples are guaranteed to have amazing wedding photos in paradise!

‘Anaeho’omalu Beach or A-Bay (Waikoloa)

Located in the heart of Waikoloa Beach Resort on the Kohala Coast, Anaeho’omalu Beach (pronounced as “ā’-nāe-ho’o-mā’lu”), or A-Bay as the locals call it, is a stunner of a beach! It’s a perfect option for anyone staying at the Waikoloa, Mauna Lani, or Mauna Kea Resorts. It’s close and convenient for any dinner plans or reception you may have planned afterward. The crescent-shaped bay overlooks beautiful ancient fish ponds with a sweeping mountain view. It’s one of the longest stretches of white sand on the island too! There occasionally are a few boats in the distance, which add to the beachy atmosphere of our wedding photography. A-Bay has a variety of backdrops for newlywed portraits, too, from the coconut trees to the serenity of the Hawaiian fish ponds.

Besides being easily accessible, it has two large parking lots. Even though this is a popular beach, it’s large enough to find an open spot for a ceremony by the shoreline. If you’re after convenience and don’t want to travel far from your resort accommodation, this is the spot for you!

Kohanaiki Beach

Just a quick drive from Kailua-Kona, Kohanaiki Beach is a rustic and classic Hawaii Island beach. Locally known as Pine Trees, this is one of the Big Island’s newest state park beaches. Your ceremony will have a rustic and natural backdrop of a long stretch of white beach with tropical foliage and deep ocean blue at your feet. It has a quiet and private feel since it is generally not crowded and tourist-ridden. Like most beaches on the Big Island, natural lava rock formations are scattered across the long stretch of white sand. The beach also has several large trees that provide shade for guests’ comfort or a different portrait backdrop. In addition, numerous tide pools form at low tide, which can create an interesting background for your wedding photography.

There is ample parking, making it an excellent choice for couples who want an intimate Hawaii wedding ceremony. Most importantly, it has all the signature elements of the island’s natural beauty.

big island beach wedding

Old Kona Airport Beach

Another gem on the Western coastline is the Old Kona Airport Beach. Once home to the Kona airport, the landing strip is now used for parking, so finding a place to park certainly won’t be an issue! The Old Kona Airport Beach is made up of both sand and lava rock slabs, with the sand being primarily covered with pebbles and lava rock fragments. There are some patches of grass scattered along the beach too. The palm and coconut trees provide shade and add to the tropical ambiance as you exchange your vows. It has a long stretch of white sand and typically isn’t too busy. There is plenty of space to spread out with a larger group. Also, since the beach runs the length of a standard airport runway, you can be sure to find a quiet spot for your inimate ceremony and portraits!

This beach is a convenient option for those staying in the Kailua-Kona area. There is a flat walking trail parallel to the runway for easy access too.

Kukio Beach

Even though the beach is open to the public, to access the beach, you have to pass through a gated luxury resort community. Although this beach is typically very quiet with beachgoers, it is a VERY popular spot for weddings. So, unfortunately, you may not be the only wedding on the beach that day. Therefore, we only suggest this spot for a Big Island wedding if you stay in the resort area simply because of the accessibility.
The beach features a long sandy beach close to the Four Seasons Hualalai. It has all the distinguishable elements of the Big Island’s natural beauty! There are ample lava rock formations and tide pools, which are attractive natural features for your wedding ceremony and photography.

Puako Beach

This hidden gem is tucked away in an affluent, laidback neighborhood north of the Waikoloa and Mauna Loa resorts. The breathtaking views and tidepools are just a few reasons we love this location to say “I, do!” Its unspoiled beauty has a rustic feel and quiet charm due to the rocky shoreline. The lava rocks are a striking contrast to the deep ocean in the distance. However, it does have a small patch of sandy beach, offering a sense of privacy and seclusion. What’s more, you can generally have the beach to yourself since it’s primarily frequented by locals who live there. This makes it an ideal location if privacy is important to you both. It’s perfect for a romantic elopement or a smaller group.

Parking is limited, but since this is off the beaten path, street parking is available. It’s very private yet accessible, a beautiful option away from the more touristy spots.

The Chapel

The variety and flexibility of this Big Island wedding venue are just a few reasons why we love this venue. If you’re worried about unpredictable weather, the white chapel nearby provides a beautiful rain backup option. Moreover, it also offers a more traditional wedding ceremony setting. This beautifully designed chapel offers a quaint and intimate feel that is perfect for smaller weddings or elopements. Plus, the air conditioning will ensure that you and your guests stay cool and comfortable even on the hottest Hawaiian days!

The chapel’s design and creamy white interiors make it a versatile location for any type of wedding theme or style.

The white and fresh tropical color palette used throughout this styled shoot only accentuated the airy nature of the chapel!

Natural Beauty

When it comes to beautiful and unique photo opportunities, the Outrigger Kona has got you covered! From the white gazebo overlooking the ocean to the towering travelers palms act like a natural archway for newlywed portraits!

The white gazebo is a stunning location that overlooks the ocean, offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. This tranquil spot is perfect for romantic couples portraits or group shots with your wedding party. You’ll love how the white gazebo contrasts with the blue sky and ocean, creating a crisp and timeless look for your photos.

But if you’re looking for something more dramatic and adventurous, the lava rocks down by the water’s edge offer an unforgettable backdrop for your photos. These jagged rocks and crashing waves create a unique and unforgettable atmosphere that’s perfect for couples who want to capture the adventurous and raw spirit of Hawaii.

For this styled shoot, we took full advantage of many gorgeous photo opportunities throughout the property!

THINGS TO CONSIDER

One of the most unique features of this venue is the access to ocean cliffs for romantic couples’ photos. It’s important to note that in order to host a ceremony at the Outrigger Kona, there is a requirement for fa minimum two night stay for the wedding couple. But don’t worry, this is more of a perk as you want to be just steps away from your ceremony on the day of, and steps away from your honeymoon after your celebration!

We are thrilled to announce our newest wedding venue on the Big Island of Hawaii, the Royal Kona Resort, a classic historic oceanfront hotel in the heart of Kona! This gorgeous venue offers several beautiful private oceanfront ceremony locations where you can celebrate your love story in a stunning location with the mesmerizing sunset and crashing waves as your backdrop. Kona’s natural beauty provides a captivating setting for an unforgettable and inspired celebration, and this new venue has some of the most private ceremony locations for a hotel that we have seen!

We are thrilled to share our unforgettable styled shoot at our newest Big Island wedding venue! You’ll love the tropical variety of this venue, from the thatched ceremony altar to the swaying palm trees…

Nohea Point

Nohea Point is our personal favorite, and it features a thatched gazebo surrounded by lush foliage overlooking the Pacific blue ocean, a private lagoon, and sparkling Kailua Bay. It is totally separated from the main hotel walkways and protected by a gate for privacy. So you won’t have anyone besides your loved ones walking near your ceremony! The thatched hut truly gives off tropical vibes and provides an elevated landing to exchange your vows with the ocean in the distance. The towering palm trees add to the tropical magic of the setting. It will make you think, “Wow, we’re actually getting married in Hawaii!” It’s what tropical wedding dreams are made of…

Our amazing floral partner, Grace Flowers Hawaii, brought the wow factor with the vibrant tropical flowers for our styled shoot! We love to feature seasonal and local blooms, like ginger, anthuriums, heliconia, and bird of paradise with tropical greenery like monstera. Grace Flowers didn’t disappoint!

The floral sconces and arch arrangements were the perfect decor to frame the aisle! One of the benefits of using floral sconces to frame the aisle is that they create a stunning focal point that draws the eye toward the altar. They also provide a sense of symmetry and balance to the intimate ceremony space. Moreover, the versatility of this venue makes it ideal for including floral stunners as part of your wedding decor. And who are we kidding? We can never say no to more flowers!

Sunset Cove

Another ceremony option at this Big Island wedding venue is Sunset Cove, it’s an enchanting spot by the water’s edge on a cliffside location surrounded by white sand. The mesmerizing backdrop of lava rocks and striking sunset provides an idyllic atmosphere for one of our stress-free Hawaii wedding packages! It also provides an elevated stone landing for your vows and a beautiful backdrop with the ocean in the distance. Your guests can sit comfortably and literally have their toes in the sand while you walk up the sandy aisle!

For this styled shoot, we included a bamboo arch with coordinating tropical arrangements to beautifully frame the altar and our lovely model, Lakota, who is the epitome of a bohemian beachy bride, thanks to the talented beauty team at Indigo Grace. Simply stunning!

Our Story

Our founder, Karma Hill, was already a prominent figure in the wedding industry as a photographer when she recognized a need in the Maui wedding market for a brand offering a simple planning experience for couples booking a destination wedding from afar, paired with high-quality vendors and a professional team of planners.

Karma witnessed numerous planning brands adopting a “budget” approach when it came to small weddings. These brands resorted to lower-cost vendors, limited their options to only beach locations or free alternatives, and compromised on the elements that contribute to a beautiful and unique wedding experience. She recognized a sizable group of couples desiring a simple, well-planned wedding offering with superior location choices, the highest quality floral arrangements, photography, customer service, and overall experience.

The Evolution

Karma took this premium quality wedding concept and created Simple Maui Wedding. After planning over 1000 weddings on Maui, Karma, and her team knew the service they offered on Maui would benefit other Hawaiian Islands as well. In 2017, Simple Oahu Wedding was launched and has since offered the same simple planning experience for our Oahu-bound couples.

When it came time to choose the next island to expand this concept to, the Big Island was an obvious choice! With its amazing weather on the Kona/Kohala coast, incredible venue options, beautiful beaches, and amazingly talented wedding vendors it was a natural fit.

What Do We Offer?

We offer a planning experience that is SIMPLE! You are likely planning your wedding from thousands of miles and perhaps a few time zones away. We want to make your planning experience FUN and stress-free. By leaving the details to us, you can focus on enjoying your engagement and getting excited about your upcoming wedding and honeymoon in Hawaii!

Who Are We Best For?

We are experts in crafting intimate Hawaii wedding packages designed for up to 50 guests. We firmly believe smaller weddings create the ultimate wedding experience, especially when it comes to destination weddings. Weddings that are too large expand into a family reunion scenario where everyone vies for your attention, detracting from the magic of your special day. It can be hard curating a smaller guest list, but it is very much worth it!

Why We Like Intimate Ceremonies

We specialize in ceremony planning and all of our packages include one of our: Hawaii wedding venues or Hawaii Beach wedding venues, photography, officiant, floral, planning, and of course an amazing onsite coordinator to assist you on the big day-to-ensure everything goes smoothly.

Their style is characterized by ethereal, light-filled imagery and cinematic composition.

How We Do Things Different

When choosing a wedding planning company for your special day, it’s essential to be aware many packaged services cut corners. This is usually done by selecting photographers and florists based solely on their affordability not quality and skillful execution of their craft. We take a different approach. We only work with the best vendors in the business, carefully selecting renowned brand names to guarantee you the highest quality service and exceptional style. This guarantees you receive the utmost expertise and style for your wedding ceremony, leaving no room for uncertainty in terms of quality or aesthetics.

What Happens After the Ceremony?

Once you have finished your group and couples photography after your ceremony what comes next?

Most of our couples opt for a nice sit-down dinner after their ceremony with their closest family and friends. We offer recommendations for the best places to go that can accommodate your needs and desires. Whether you want to have a section in a restaurant or a totally private dinner oceanfront. We can help you find the perfect post-ceremony option.

While we don’t plan receptions, we can connect you with some great options from our hotel and restaurant partners who specialize in food and beverage and we can handle reception floral and photography. From a private dinner for two with toes in the sand, or a full reception with dancing and all the traditional elements after your ceremony it’s all possible. With guidance and recommendations from our team, you can make the best choice for your vision and budget.

Clients love the flexibility of creating their own after-wedding reception and avoiding the cost of having a full reception planner when there really isn’t a need for one. Our hotel and restaurant partners have full teams of great people who specialize in the food and beverage portion of your day.
